Smoke Detectors

Ionisation smoke alarms are better suited for detecting fast flaming fires. This smoke alarm uses an ionization chamber that consists of two separated positive and negative plates. Alpha particles are constantly released which ionize the air, these particles create a small current. When the smoke particles enter they neutralize the air which drops the current between each plate in turn triggers the alarm. These smoke alarms are best suited in bedrooms and living rooms. Optical smoke alarms are better at detecting smouldering fires. This smoke alarm uses an photoelectric sensor and a beam of light. When the smoke particles enter it blocks the light beam which triggers the alarm. These smoke alarms are best suited in hallways and landings.
